When Android was first announced there were immediate comparisons with the iPhone. Not just the handset, but the business models driving both platforms was compared and contrasted. Apple won't license to anyone but Apple, Google wants to give away Android to as many customers as it can. Interestingly enough, in the Far East we heard of the "HiPhone", a supposed iPhone clone presumably beyond the clutches of Mr. Jobs lawyers, which was running Windows Mobile anyway.
This move was interesting for another reason - the Far Eastern manufacturers would be falling over each other to load a quality handset OS on their mass produced commodity offerings, because hardware economies of scale meant the margins on hardware were already squeezed till the pips squeaked. Android must have seemed like a gift from above - and of course we cannot ignore these economic times.
General Mobile were the first to dip their toes in the water with the DSTL1 announcement. It was clear there would be more, not just because the cost and manufacturing process seemed such a good fit, but because the form factor of large, detailed touchscreen, net connected handsets really do herald the beginning of the next generation of mobiles. These make regular handsets feel like PC's did before mice came along.
Enter Yuhua - known previously for their work with Normandy, a design they ran on the Trolltech Qtopia platform. Now any fool can knock up a photoshopped wishlist phone design, but Yuhua are a top ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) with pedigree, so these pics really do have the credibility you'd expect from such a manufacturer:

Android is a game changer on so many levels. Will the dream of the market being flooded by quality low cost handsets be realised by a Far Eastern invasion? You decide...
