3's first Android handset is the award-winning HTC Hero which for extra sparkle comes with music in the form of Spotify. This is a great way to differentiate their offering and is sure to be a hit with its pop pickin' audience. In fact 3 invested heavily in Spotify back in August via its owner, Hutchison Whampoa, and the package is expected to launch at $161 with a monthly fee of $57.
This is how Spotify looked at Google IO this year:
3 has always been the most radical operator - it had to be due to the fact it is the UK's newest and smallest. Charlotte Blanchard, director of products and services at 3 said: “As a first step we’ve built this service into an attractive, well-priced package with the HTC Hero. Over time our deal with Spotify will extend across a range of our products including Mobile Broadband.”
"This is a very exciting deal for Spotify," said Spotify global business development head Faisal Galaria. "We're intent on offering people a high quality, simple yet powerful portable music experience at a fair price and we're thrilled to be working with 3 to bring Spotify to UK music fans."
