We reported a while back on Dells Android plans, in particular their Chinese-only Benzine model. Well today strong rumours are doing the rounds that this same handset has been beefed up and is being readied for launch in the States. The most obvious change is the 3G support, which the Chinese model didn't have as the networks are totally different. Hopefully they will drop the OPhone label too, as this refers to China Mobiles Android customisation.

Another criticism has been aimed at the feel of the device, described as "plasticky". This will not wash in the fiercely competitive handset markets it is about to dive into, and remember Dell are no stranger to getting snubbed: earlier this year their first Android design was rejected for being "too bland" by the carriers.

According to an insider who tipped off mobile.163.com, Dell has added WiFi, upped the camera spec from 3MP to 5MP, and is also heavily customising the UI the same way HTC did with the Hero, Motorola with MOTOBLUR etc. This UI is said to resemble the iPhone much more than standard Android, and to boot the handset is thinner than its rival from Apple.
