Not content with announcing the worlds first Android netbook, Acer today announced the A1, which promises to have a few worlds firsts for Android of its own: the first 800 x 480 touchscreen smartphone, the first 1Ghz CPU in a handset and the first commercially available Android device to run version 1.6, the Donut release. Acer promised more to come as they announce the A1 in London - it is one of a series in their new "liquid" range.
The A1 will be available from November 28th - just in time for the holiday season. At the press conference several A1's were seen in various red and white colours, but the main buzz was around that 1Ghz Qualcomm SnapDragon CPU which enabled the handset to give "instant responses" according to Acer senior vice president Jim Wong.

There are some other cool new features beyond your ordinary Android handset here too. Acer described a new service termed "Acer Sync", which promised to provide the kind of sync seen between Android and Google (gmail, contacts etc) but between your handset and your PC. A small piece of software must be running on your PC for this to happen, but what a way to stick the cloud in your living room!
Another new service is what Acer called "Spinlets" - these sound like apps to allow realtime streaming of media to other devices, With all this, and a 5Mp camera to boot, this sounds like the best equipped Android device released yet.
