TOPIC: Is Symbian legacy yet?

Is Symbian legacy yet? 3 years, 5 months ago #8

With all this talk of iphones and androids ... just when you thought Symbian had been left to wither on the vine, back it comes like a zombie in one of those crap films which just wont die.

I think this is a little premature but I can see where you are coming from. Motorola have announced they are dropping Symbian for Android, today Sony Ericsson announced Android phones having dropped UIQ, and therefore Symbian. However, with Symbian now being open sourced a significant cost barrier has been removed.

Nokia is by far the worlds largest handset manufacturer and they own Symbian. All their top end smartphones use it, so unless they have a Linux derivative OS they are about to announce it will still be used by them for some time yet.

However, time is passing now and it says here "3 times as many developers are choosing Android as Symbian": news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-10172760-16.html
