Google recently announced the launch of Android Instant Apps, a new technology which allows just the bare minumum of an App to be downloaded from links, bypassing the Play Store. This sounds cool enough on its own, but the implications of this reach far deeper than at first appears, and could end up changing the entire internet.

Ahead of next weeks global shindig in Barcelona, Garmin-ASUS have announced their first Android handset - the nuvifone A50. It's not their first handset, since the nuvifone line already existed, but has been met with disappointing market reaction to date. That looks all set to change however with the A50 supporting their flagship GPS technology in conjunction with voice recognition and multitouch. It also claims to surpass Googles much-publicised free turn-by-turn satnav, which all new Android models feature, by having all the maps preloaded rather than pulled in from the net as needed.

Creative - yes those same folks most famous for their audio cards during the dawn of the PC era - have announced an Android based smartphone with almost impossible specs. They stress the Zii Trinity is a concept handset which may never make it to market, but nevertheless their reference design is just sitting there waiting for ambitious manufacturers to run with this amazing phone. It has full HD 1080p video playback - that's Blu-Ray quality - with HDMI output, plus a 5 Megapixel camera and 3,1 inch OLED multitouch display.

Now even the WSJ is reporting the Googlephone as almost certain, so it looks like all the rumours surrounding this seismic event are true. They even have a name for the Android device they plan to sell to consumers directly but without a cariier deal: the Nexus One. You'll forgive us if we skip a picture of it and the specs - will a HTC logo do? - because that's who the big G has partnered with to manufacture it. Prototypes have been handed out to employees at the Googleplex, and it's supposed to be available as soon as next year.

Whatever next? Do the good folks at Motorola never sleep? Now we hear of the Motus, a snappy looking keyboard-sporting Android handset. The (alleged) specs are a 3.1 inch 480x320 touchscreen display, a 5 meg camera and 802.11b&g WiFi. It was only cleared airorthy by the FCC a few weeks ago and won't be sold until next year, but the downer is it "only" runs Android 1.6 - if indeed any of these rumours turn out to be true.
