Creative - yes those same folks most famous for their audio cards during the dawn of the PC era - have announced an Android based smartphone with almost impossible specs. They stress the Zii Trinity is a concept handset which may never make it to market, but nevertheless their reference design is just sitting there waiting for ambitious manufacturers to run with this amazing phone. It has full HD 1080p video playback - that's Blu-Ray quality - with HDMI output, plus a 5 Megapixel camera and 3,1 inch OLED multitouch display.

Creative are no strangers to Android: they also launched the Egg range in the summer, so this sounds like a welcome further addition to their lineup.

It's not all plain saling though. What Creative really want is a big-name manufacturer to take this design and roll it to the masses, the problem is those same companies also already market their own high spec devices. Perhaps that's why the feature set is so radical - it's an attempt to differentiate these products sufficiently enough so they are not seen as head-on competition.

In any case, if there are any spare prototypes please zap them over to the AA towers!
